Atelier is a Shopify theme for fashion and apparel brands. This guide covers installing the theme, its settings, and the fashion features that need a little setup: fit and fabric notes from product metafields, the size guide, the shoppable lookbook and gift options.
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-09-27
| Preset | Look |
|---|---|
| Atelier | Warm stone and ink with a bronze accent, Cormorant headings and Assistant body text. The only preset. |
Color schemes live under Theme settings > Colors. Every section has a Color scheme setting, so you can alternate light and dark bands down a page without editing any colors. Changing a scheme updates every section that uses it. Atelier ships with these schemes:
| Scheme | Colors |
|---|---|
| Scheme 1 | Warm stone background, ink text, bronze accent. The default for every section. |
| Scheme 2 | Ink background, stone text, gold accent. |
| Scheme 3 | Taupe background, dark brown text. |
| Scheme 4 | Deep burgundy background, cream text. |
Each scheme sets Background, Text, Headings, Accent, Button, Button label and Border.
Before you edit theme code, duplicate the theme (Actions > Duplicate) and work on the copy. Code changes are not covered by theme updates or support.
Open the theme editor and select the gear icon to find these groups.
| Group | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Typography | A font for Headings (Cormorant by default) and for Body text (Assistant by default). |
| Layout | Page width (1300px by default) and Section spacing. |
| Buttons and media | Button corner radius and Media corner radius. Both are square by default. |
| Favicon | Favicon image. |
| Colors | Color schemes. |
| Free shipping bar | Show free shipping progress bar, Free shipping threshold, Progress message and Unlocked message. |
Add sections from Add section in the theme editor. Every section has its own Color scheme.
| Section | Where | Settings |
|---|---|---|
| Hero | Any page | Image, Heading, Text, Button label and Button link. |
| Featured collection | Any page | Heading, Collection and Products to show. |
| Atelier: Fit and fabric | Product page | Fabric label, Fit label, Care label, Top padding and Bottom padding. Values come from product metafields. |
| Atelier: Size guide | Product page and pages | Heading, Size column label, three measurement column labels, Note, and one Size row block per size. |
| Atelier: Lookbook | Pages | Heading and Text, plus one Look block per look with up to three product hotspots. |
| Recently viewed products | Product page | Heading, Products to show and padding. |
| Cart gift options | Cart page | Enable gift wrap, Enable gift note, Heading, Placeholder and Gift note maximum length. |
| Contact form | Any page | Heading, Text and Show phone field. |
The home page starts with Hero and Featured collection. The product page has Product, Atelier: Fit and fabric, Atelier: Size guide and Recently viewed products. The cart page has Cart and Cart gift options.
Fit and fabric: the Atelier: Fit and fabric section shows a product's fabric, fit and care from product metafields. Create these definitions under Settings > Custom data > Products, then fill them in on each product. A row with no value is hidden, and the section never breaks the page.
| Name | Namespace and key | Type | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fabric | atelier.fabric | Multi-line text | 98% cotton, 2% elastane |
| Fit | atelier.fit | Single line text | True to size, tailored through the waist |
| Care | atelier.care | Multi-line text | Machine wash cold, hang dry |
Size guide: the Atelier: Size guide section is built in the theme editor, not from metafields. Set the Size column label and up to three measurement column labels (Bust, Waist and Hip by default), then add one Size row block per size. On the product page it shows as a drawer that opens under the product; on a page it shows as an open table.
Lookbook: create a page and choose the page.lookbook template. Add a Look block for each look: an Image, Title, Caption, the Products in this look, and up to three hotspots. For each hotspot choose a Hotspot product and set its horizontal and vertical position as a percentage of the image. Shoppers select a hotspot to see the product and go straight to it.
Atelier needs no metaobjects. The size guide and lookbook are edited entirely in the theme editor.
Atelier uses a cart page. Quantity changes update the cart and the header count without reloading the page.
Gift options add a gift wrap checkbox and a gift note to the cart. In Atelier it is the Cart gift options section on the cart template.
Settings: Enable gift wrap and Enable gift note (both on by default), Heading, Placeholder for the note field, and Gift note maximum length (200 characters by default).
Choices are saved as the cart attributes Gift wrap (Yes when ticked) and Gift note. They appear on the order in your admin and on packing slips from apps that print cart attributes. Keep the names exactly as they are so those apps can read them.
Gift wrap is a free option by default. To charge for wrapping, create a gift wrap product and sell it as a separate item.
The free shipping progress bar is set under Theme settings > Free shipping bar. It shows on the cart page and tells shoppers how much more they need to spend, then confirms when free shipping is unlocked.
The bar only displays a message. Free shipping itself comes from your shipping rates or an automatic discount, so set the same threshold under Settings > Shipping and delivery.
Atelier uses Shopify's customer accounts. Sign-in, order history, order status, addresses, profile and the Buy again action are hosted by Shopify, so they keep working through theme updates. The theme has no legacy account templates to set up or maintain.
The account icon only shows while customer accounts are turned on. If it is missing, check Settings > Customer accounts first.
Atelier includes the storefront features every Shopify Theme Store theme provides. They use Shopify's own data and apps, so there is nothing extra to install. Where a feature has options, you find them in the theme editor on the section or block that shows it.
If your copy of Atelier is missing one of these, check your theme library for an update. Updates add a new copy with your settings carried over, so you can review it before publishing.
Atelier is built to be used with a keyboard and screen readers, and animations stop for visitors who prefer reduced motion. Images load at the size the screen needs, and images below the fold load as the shopper scrolls.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Does Atelier need any apps? | No. Fit notes, the size guide, the lookbook and gift options all work without an app. Filters use Shopify's own Search & Discovery app, which is free. |
| Why is the fit and fabric section empty? | The product has no values in atelier.fabric, atelier.fit or atelier.care. Create the metafield definitions and fill them in on the product. |
| Can I use centimetres in the size guide? | Yes. Type the measurements in any unit and say which in the Note. |
| Can I use the old customer account pages? | No. Atelier uses Shopify's customer accounts, which Shopify hosts. Turn them on under Settings > Customer accounts. |
| How do I update Atelier? | When a new version is out, the theme library shows an update. Updating adds a new copy with your settings carried over, so you can check it before publishing. |
1.0.0: first Theme Store version, built on Shopify's Skeleton theme. Atelier preset; fit and fabric notes from metafields; size guide drawer and page; shoppable lookbook; gift options; free shipping progress bar; recently viewed products; predictive search; footer newsletter signup; Shopify customer accounts.
